The Mark of a Christian
The word "mark" comes from the Greek word "skopeo" which means to 'regard, consider, take heed, to look at or look on'. We, the Christians of the world, say to the non-Christians, "Look at us, take heed, consider us. We are the disciples of Jesus". When we get their attention, what is it that they are supposed to see that makes us so different form them? What is in us that can be seen that will cause a sinner to hunger after Jesus?
Our Lord says in John 13:34-35, "A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another." What is the "mark" of a Christian? It is LOVE. What is it that all men will see? It is the LOVE we have one for another. Not just the words "I love you", but the love that Jesus loves us with... and ACTION kind of love. A love that forgives your brothers and sisters in the Lord. A love that shows mercy and understanding, even when you really don't understand. A love that helps in time of need. A love that says, "when you need me, I am here."
When men see this love in action, they will say, "I want to receive that kind of love and I want to give that kind of love. I want Jesus, the Author of that love." I want to leave you with this question, "Do I have this kind of love?"
